The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage--at least it seems that way. If you've been thinking you need to know more about it, here's your opportunity.

If you find yourself confused by what you've read to this point, don't despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Things you will need

There are some materials and supplies you are going to need before you begin to create a stunning portrait from photo. Make sure your brushes are of good quality. You also need various sizes of brushes for various thickness of strokes. You will need at least primary colors in acrylic. Then you can always mix and create different shades from these. You will also need two large tubes of both white and black colors. Most importantly you are going to need a palette. Make sure to also get a container to clean the brushes and wetting the acrylic paints.

Create an outline

You then need to start creating an outline of the painting you wish to create on the canvas. For ease of starting out you could try replicating a portrait from photo. You could trace out the outlines of the photograph onto the canvas with the help of tracing paper. Then you need to mix in the colors similar to what is used in the photograph. Starting with portraits from photos is a good idea because they provide a ready reference of sorts.

Filling in colors

Next you need to start filling in the outlines with colors. Try painting several layers by waiting for one layer to dry before starting on the next one. This provides a classy and professional look to your painting. If you are creating a portrait from photo, then you can even glaze it to give a better effect. Also outlining the objects in the painting with a black color gives it more contrast. This gives the portrait from photo a more finished appearance.

If you've picked some pointers about portrait from photo that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won't really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don't use it.
